Elvis
Presley’s musical significance, cultural impact, and artistic
achievement made him an unsurpassed icon of the 20th Century. Rex Fowler
of the folk/rock duo Aztec Two-Step conceived, wrote, and produced the
critically acclaimed documentary film which stands out from all the
others by focusing on one fascinating aspect of The King’s legendary
generosity – giving away shiny new Cadillacs to his friends and to total
strangers.
The Show
“ Elvis & Me”
is an engaging show honoring
the legacy and generosity of Elvis Presley. The show will begin with a
screening of the documentary film, 200 Cadillacs. Rex will
conduct a Q&A immediately following the film, then after a short
intermission, give a live performance of his original songs written for
the documentary as well as renditions of several of The King's early
classics. Mr. Fowler can perform "Elvis & Me" either as a solo acoustic
artist or with The Extraordinaires, his four-piece backing band.
The Film
Presley’s original band-mate, DJ Fontana,
longtime live-in girlfriend Linda Thompson, Gordon Stoker of the
Jordanaires, Myrna Smith of the Sweet Inspirations, his nurse,
hairdresser, Karate instructor, Denver police officers, and others
recount the stories behind the gifts and share their personal stories
about Elvis. The film is interspersed with original songs written by Rex
Fowler, John Hiatt, Syd Straw and many more.

Reviews
“If Elvis Presley liked you, he had a special way of
showing it… 200 Cadillacs is an unpretentious hour-long film about one
aspect of Elvis Presley’s life … I’ve always felt that the mark of a
good documentary is its ability to draw you in even if you don’t know or
care that much about the subject. I like Elvis well enough, but I’m not
a devotee, and I never thought I’d find this film as compelling as I
did.”

Crazy Video View
“A charming and imaginative idea for a new take on The
King of Rock & Roll. Being a musician, Fowler naturally wrote songs for
the film commenting on Presley and often performed in his rockabilly
style; the result is equally charming and imaginative.”
– William Ruhlmann, All Music Guide
“The brainchild of Rex Fowler, 200 Cadillacs takes the
viewer on a journey into the stories behind Elvis’ love of giving
Cadillacs to friends and complete strangers. This is an important
release as it opens up a known but little publicized part of Elvis’
personality. The film also features more than 200 photos of Elvis
Presley, many of them previously unpublished, and there are some great
shots to look at!”
