Days of Horses
by rex fowler
Back in the days of horses - around one hundred years
Before Corvettes or Porches - Henry Ford shifted gears
Add a couple other visionaries - high-octane gasoline
All hail the Motor City - hello/goodbye James Dean
Back in the days of horses - all roads lead to Rome
But Caddy’s, T-Birds and Royce’s - have paved them all in chrome
Ride on Ventura Highway - rag top Route 66
U.S. 1’s nooks and byways - ride on and get your fix
Wheels peel round and round they roll
Some too fast and some too slow
Radio peals rock ‘n roll
Turn it up out on the road….
Then with two car garages - came salesmen making deals
Come on down, check out our Dodges - slip in behind the wheel
Take it for a test drive Papa - check underneath the hood
Five hundred down we’ll swap it – oh boy don’t it smell good!
Now in these days of horses - it’s clearly understood
Unbridled bursts of forces - corralled beneath the hood
Pedal to the metal baby - backseats and sweet sixteens
Hot Rods and toolin’ Main Street - ride on and chase your dreams
Wheels peel round and round they roll
Some too fast some way too slow
Radio peals rock ‘n roll
Turn it up out on the road….
